SWEAT OVER SELFIES
WHY SWEATING IS GOOD FOR YOU.
Article 03
You know that incredible feeling after a great workout when your back is drenched in sweat and your face is red? It feels like you’ve just completed the toughest and most effective workout.
But is sweating actually a sign of a good workout?
Let’s run through some quick facts first.
Why do we sweat?
Sweating is our body’s way of cooling down.
When doing a workout, our muscles produce heat that is then released in the form of water through our skin. As the sweat evaporates, it cools down our skin and body.
How much you sweat is determined by genetics, gender, age, metabolic rate and of course the type of workout you do and the temperature around you.
Sweating does not mean your body is “detoxing” or “cleansing” itself - you simply cannot sweat toxins out of the body (unfortunately). That’s a job for your liver, intestines & kidney.
Is sweating a sign of a good workout?
Firstly, you must always remember that any workout you do is great!
However, sweating is not the most reliable indicator that the workout has been any more effective than if you didn’t sweat.
The environment around you will influence how much you sweat; For example doing the exact same workout outside on a hot day will leave you sweating more than doing the same workout inside an air-conditioned gym.
The type of workout you do will also influence how much you sweat; While a pilates workout is super effective at strengthening your core muscles, it definitely won’t leave you as sweaty as a HIIT workout. Both workouts are effective and necessary, but in different ways.
The benefits of sweating
There’s no shame in being the sweatiest woman in the gym. It feels amazing and the benefits are endless.
Sweating regulates your body temperature
Our bodies are incredible! Whenever it gets too hot it needs to release the heat & energy and cool itself down.
Sweat makes your skin glow
Mother Nature’s blush, yes please! Sweat leaves your skin glistening, but more importantly, exercise gets blood circulating throughout the body, which gives your face and skin a healthy glow from the inside out.
Sweating hydrates your skin
The process of sweating opens your pores and helps flush away dirt and bacteria that may have caused skin breakouts.
No more standing with your head over a pot of hot water with kitchen towels covering your head.
Sweating makes you feel confident
Nothing feels more powerful than when you’re pushing through a workout dripping with sweat, your hair a mess and your makeup smudged. It sets you up for confidence, not just in the gym, but everywhere beyond it too.
… And makes you feel more satisfied & energised
A sweaty workout followed by a cold shower will leave you ready to tackle the rest of the day like nothing else.
So ladies, get out there and sweat your butts off in the gym. Sweating is amazing for your health, energy and confidence.
